29th December 2017 – Year In Review

Hello all.

Hope you’ve recovered from the excess of turkey and tinsel on Christmas Day and are slowly working your way through the selection boxes. We have a drawer crammed full of chocolate treats – we give it about a week before it disappears. Hope you all had a restful and fun time with family.

As the New Year approaches, it’s time to look back on what has been another epic and rewarding year for The Campbell Burns Metabolic Trust. We continue to be so well supported by our fundraisers – we’re so lucky Our huge thanks to you all, for making this another successful year of helping families care for children with metabolic conditions. You make our work possible and we are incredibly grateful. So, without further ado, here are some fundraising highlights from 2017!

January & November – Quiz Nights at Coalville Rugby Club, make possible by the Quiz Masters and Writers, Matt, and Mark. Special thanks to Claire for putting the prizes together!

March – Craft and Goodie Fayre at Cooper’s Arms in Quesada. Thanks for your ongoing support, Spanish friends!

March and September – the hell of the Devil Mud Run! A brave and crazy gang of people took on the mud run in both March and September, clambering, wading, slithering, sobbing (no? just Bekki?) their way round a 9km obstacle course. LEGENDS.

May – Marisha ran the Baker Hughes 10km in Aberdeen. Go for it!

May – ChurchDown Nursery in Cheltenham held a Summer Fete (firemen turned up, which makes us a little over-excited) and the nursery ladies kindly donated their proceeds. Super kind, thank you.

June – the Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra held a concert at Southwell Minster, and invited the Trust to go along and talk to interested attendees about our work. A beautiful event.

August – London to Paris Cycle Challenge! Andy, Mark, Damo, Matt, Shane and Paul (supported by Bekki and Sarah) cycled 300 miles between London and Paris. They endured punctures, blisters, and flapjack that could have powered an Olympic team. A fantastic achievement!

August – the 5th Annual Golf Day at Naunton Downs Golf Course in Cheltenham. Campbell’s Auntie Claire and Chris put on another brilliant day and it was very special. It remains one of the highlights of our fundraising year.

September – our friends in Spain held another golf day, this time at Las Colinas Golf Resort. Looks as though they had a brilliant time and thanks, as ever, for the support.

October – a group of highly-trained individuals took on the Cheltenham Half Marathon again, and a team of mini-supporters ran the Mini Mile as well. Brilliant stuff – a great achievement!

October – a group of courageous kids took on the Devil Glow Run. Awesome stuff!

Looking back over 2017 brings a tear to the eye. It’s been another astonishing year of fundraising and, as always, we simply couldn’t support families caring for young children with metabolic conditions without the efforts of our fundraisers. Events like those above are the reason we can help so many children. YOU guys have made our work possible. So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

We need to keep the momentum going – families will continue to face challenges that we can help them with so, if you’re thinking about taking on a challenge, or making a donation, or doing something crafty that might bring in the pennies, we’d love to hear from you. Let’s make 2018 as wonderful as 2017!

Love Bekki and Mark xxx
