The decision to launch a new charity

Since Campbell was diagnosed, we have been overwhelmed by the support of family and friends. So many people have given their time to help raise money for Rainbows, the hospice helping our family through this experience.

However, we want to do more. In particular, we want to help families of children aged ten and under, living in the UK, who have been diagnosed with a metabolic disorder. We want to do this in Campbell’s name. We have therefore established a charity called:

There are a wide variety of metabolic disorders, of differing levels of severity. The Trust helps families cope with the day-today challenges of caring for a child with a complicated medical diagnosis.  We fund days out for families, so they can take a break; we help families purchase kitchen equipment to help them care for their child on a restricted diet; and we help to relieve the financial pressure that repeated hospital trips bring – there are a limited number of hospitals able to diagnose and treat metabolic disorders, so many families (like ours did) might have to travel for medical support.

We have been supported by our brilliant fundraisers, who have helped us help others.

How to get involved

The charity is based in Coalville, but is registered in England, Wales, and Scotland. Our reach and the people we can help is therefore national. We welcome support from local businesses, fundraisers, business further afield, and anyone who wants to help. Here’s how you can support us:

• send us your fundraising ideas – maybe you bake, sew, walk, enjoy sitting in a bath of beans…anything you can do to raise money for the Trust will help families dealing with metabolic disorders
